PASSION PROJECT

Deck Forge

Context.

Witnessing my partner navigate his ever-growing MTG collection – hundreds of cards meticulously sorted, binders overflowing, deck lists scribbled on scraps – ignited a design itch in me. The manual shuffling, endless data entry, and cumbersome deck-building felt like a missed opportunity. There had to be a better way to embrace the vibrant chaos of MTG without sacrificing efficiency.

Driven by this challenge, I embarked on a design sprint, a personal quest to streamline the MTG experience. Deck Forge arose from this journey, a user-centric app woven from a love for the game and a desire to break free from analog limitations.

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

USER STUDY

I talked to 6 diverse MTG players to understand their approach towards this game, unique needs and challenges. I observed their current collection management practices, including the use of existing apps, spreadsheets, and physical binders.

‘‘ I love playing casually with friends, but organising my cards is such a chore. I just want a quick and easy way to scan them and have them in my digital binder. ’’

‘‘ I want a tool that not just manages my cards but also gives insights into their value and trading potential. ’’
